Winners announced at PHCC’s 24th Annual Student Art Show

MARTINSVILLE – For the past 24 years, the Patrick Henry Community College Foundation has purchased one student-made drawing or painting every year at the college’s Annual Student Art Show where its students display their best work from the past two semesters.

From the 30 pieces submitted by 22 different students, PHCC chose Seth Young as this year’s Purchase Award winner for his work “Knife in a Paint Fight.” As the Purchase Award recipient, Young receives $150 from the PHCC Foundation, and his piece will be on display at the colleges for years to come.

During the Annual Student Art Show award reception Thursday, PHCC also presented awards to the following artist:

Gracie Cisneros, Malik Hairston, Joshua Womeldorf, and Roslyn Wingett received Honorable Mentions.

Jonathan Wall, Timber Marie Barker, and John Christian received the Award of Excellence.

Teresa Hemmings was named Best in Show for her piece titled “Reflections.”

This year’s artwork was judged by, Ana Morales an art educator at the Taubman Museum of Art. The Student Art Show will be on display in the Walker Fine Arts/Student Center Gallery at PHCC through May 13.
