MARTINSVILLE, VA (BTW21) — A tense standoff ended peacefully Monday night after a wanted suspect barricaded himself inside a residence on Camp Branch Road, prompting a multi-agency law enforcement response.
At approximately 7:40 p.m. on July 7, deputies with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve five outstanding warrants — two felony and three misdemeanor — on Darren Earl Bacon Jr., who was wanted out of the City of Martinsville.
Upon arrival at 91 Camp Branch Road, deputies heard a television playing and detected movement inside the home.
Despite multiple attempts to make contact, Bacon refused to respond.
A search warrant was secured, and the Henry County SWAT Team, including negotiators and the Drone Team, was deployed to assist.
After breaching the front door, law enforcement flew a drone into the residence, locating Bacon in a bedroom.
Negotiators continued their efforts, and shortly after, Bacon exited the home and peacefully surrendered.
The standoff concluded without injury after nearly three hours.
Bacon was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at the
