FRANKLIN COUNTY – A woman is dead following a two vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at 1:03 PM on Route 220 at the intersection of Route 615 in Franklin County.
State police says a 2005 Ford Taurus was traveling south on Route 220 and failed to yield the right of way while making a turn onto Route 615.
The Ford was struck by a 2014 Buick Regal headed north on Route 220.
The passenger in the Ford, Jean Young Mattox, 86, of Rocky Mount, was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she later died. The driver was injured.
Police say both were wearing seat belts.
According to state police, the Buick driver was wearing his belt and was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
This crash remains under investigation.
