Rockingham County Sheriff's Office warns of scam callers posing as deputies


WENTWORTH, NC – The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office has received several reports of people and businesses receiving calls from an individual claiming he is a Deputy Sheriff with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office. The callers goes on to say that the call recipient has missed jury duty and must pay a fine within the next few hours or they will be arrested. The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office says this a scam and not to give any money, gift card or personal information to anyone. The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies are looking into these scam calls at this time. No one at the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office will never call and demand money to avoid arrest for failure to report for jury duty.
