Rockingham County Man Faces Multiple Felony Charges Following Camper Shooting Investigation

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Rockingham County man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation that began after deputies responded to a report of a camper being shot into last month.
According to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to 2351 Gideon Grove Church Road on June 23, 2026, after receiving a report that a camper at the property had been struck by gunfire.
Detectives responded to the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
As a result of the investigation, detectives charged William Ray Wilson Jr., who resides at the address, with the following offenses:
Felony Unlawful Solicitation of a Firearm
Two felony counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
Ten counts of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor
Authorities said Wilson was initially arrested on the charge of Felony Unlawful Solicitation of a Firearm. He appeared before a Rockingham County magistrate and was issued a $1,000 secured bond before being placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility.
Following additional investigation, detectives filed the remaining felony charges against Wilson. He was brought back before a magistrate, where his bond was increased to $500,000 secured. He remains in the Rockingham County Detention Facility.
Wilson is scheduled to appear in Rockingham County District Court on July 17, 2026.
The investigation remains ongoing.
