MARTINSVILLE – The Patrick Henry Community College Bookstore is partnering with the Virginia Community College System Hunger Project to help raise money for the campus food bank by accepting customer donations at the register.

Follett Higher Education Group will match donations up to $1,000.

Customers inclined to donate may stop by the bookstore, located in the Walker Building on the college campus.

While buying books or supplies this semester, students may ‘round up’ their change or provide a donation of any amount to help their fellow students.

Those not purchasing books or supplies – such as college staff or community members – are also invited to donate during the dollar-for-dollar match period.

The drive is going on now and will end on Tuesday, October 1.

At PHCC, the college food bank is called the Patriot Pantry, and it is located in the Learning Resource Center.

Since PHCC began the Patriot Pantry in 2017, it has helped approximately 75 students every semester.

The Pantry offers both nonperishable food items and household necessities like shampoo and soap.

The PHCC Bookstore joins 18 other VCCS campus stores accepting donations in-store, where Follett will match donations dollar for dollar, up to $19,000 for a total of $1,000 per institution.

For more information, drop by the PHCC Bookstore or call the Store Manager Markus Seaton at 276-656-0319.
