Virginia State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on I-81 in Roanoke County

ROANOKE, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed the lives of three people late Monday night on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:08 p.m. on December 22, along northbound I-81 near the 145-mile marker.
According to state police, a 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling north when it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a 2025 Honda Odyssey that was stopped on the shoulder.
Six people were inside the Honda at the time of the crash. Police said the driver, 65-year-old Lorraine Renee Williams, passenger 49-year-old Ebony Latasha Williams, and a 2-year-old child, Shazziyah Lesley, were all properly restrained.
Despite being transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, all three later died from their injuries.
Three additional passengers a 63 year old man, a 73-year-old man, and a 10 year old girl were also wearing seatbelts and were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as 58-year-old El Hadji Karamoko Quattara, was wearing a seatbelt and has been charged with reckless driving.
State police said additional charges are pending.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
