MARTINSVILLE – John Wimbush has been located and found to be safe and Valerie Condell is in custody. Wimbush is being evaluated at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Washington, D.C. He appears to be in good health and will await there for his family members to arrive. Condell will remain in custody with D.C. authorities until extradited back to Virginia. The Martinsville Police Department would like to thank the Virginia State Police, the Maryland State Police, and the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, the United States Marshals Service, and especially the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Police all who worked closely with our Martinsville investigators to recover Wimbush and bring Condell into custody.
VIRGINIA STATE POLICE CRITICALLY MISSING ADULT ALERT:
MARTINSVILLE – The Virginia State Police has issued a Critically Missing Adult Alert on behalf of the Martinsville Police Department on Wednesday at 4:35 PM. The Martinsville Police Department is looking for John Alee Wimbush, an 88-year-old, black male, height 5’ 06”, weight 176 pounds, with brown eyes and black, gray hair.
Wimbush was last seen wearing, a blue shirt, jacket and blue jeans. He also uses a cane to walk. He is believed to have been abducted and in danger. Wimbush was last seen on Wednesday at 10:28 AM on Forest Street in Martinsville.
He is believed to be with Valerie Vianna Swinson also known as Valerie Vianna Condell, a 59-year-old, black female, height 5’ 08”, weight 167 pounds, with brown eyes and black, blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a black and white striped tank top.
They are believed to be traveling in a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder with an unknown registration. Their possible direction of travel is I-81 north to I-95 north to Fort Washington, Maryland.

MARTINSVILLE POLICE SILVER ALERT:
MARTINSVILLE – Wednesday, the Martinsville Police Department issued a Silver Alert for John Wimbush, age 88, of Martinsville. Wimbush is a black male and is 5’6”, weighs 176 pounds and has grey hair. He has dementia and suffers from various other medical conditions. He was abducted Wednesday from Forest Street in Martinsville. Warrants have been issued on Valerie Vianna Condell, also know as Valerie Swinson, of Fort Washington, Maryland for abduction with the intent to extort money. Condell is portraying herself to be Wimbush’s daughter, however they are not related. It is believed Condell has Wimbush in a black Nissan SUV and may be in route to Maryland.
If you see John Wimbush, immediately call 911. Anyone with information about Wimbush or Condell is asked to call Lt. Sandy Hines or Sgt. Robert Jones at 276-638-8751.
