PATRICK COUNTY – A Martinsville man was arrested Friday night for assaulting two Patrick County Sheriff's Office deputies.

At 11:30 PM, the two deputies responded to 506 Creek Valley Lane in the Fairystone area in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, they encountered Corey Stephens, 31, who became combative when the deputies approached him. According to Sheriff Dan Smith, Stephens allegedly spit on both deputies as they tried to physically subdue him.

Stephens was restrained and transported to the magistrate's office where he continued to be combative. Stephens was charged after he allegedly stated that he was going to burn down the sheriff's office.

The Patrick County Sheriff stated that Stephens was also wanted on a probation violation from the City of Martinsville.

Corey Stephens was charged with threatening to burn or bomb a structure, a felony. He is being held in the Patrick County Jail without bail.
