MARTINSVILLE, Va—Patrick Henry Community College announces the hiring of former area high school head coach, and Henry County native, Andre Kidd as the Patriots’ new head cross country coach.
"It is always an exciting day when you are welcoming a new member into the Patriot family," said PHCC Athletic Director Brian Henderson. "We are excited to have Coach Kidd. He is of high character, has a proven work ethic, and has expressed his big dreams for the PHCC cross country program."
Prior to accepting the head coaching position for PHCC's cross country program, Kidd held the position of head track and field coach at Patrick County High School from 2009 - 2013.
"I am humbled by this tremendous opportunity to lead a cross country/track and field program with so much potential to grow as the Patriots have" Kidd said. "PHCC has created a wonderful environment for athletic success and I am eager to get to work writing a new chapter of achievement for the XC program."."
Coach Kidd sports a resume that also includes previous positions at Martinsville High School as the Head Track and Field Coach and Bassett High School as the Assistant Track and Field Coach.
PHCC will not only compete in cross country, but will also in NJCAA indoor track and field, as well as outdoor meets in the spring.
"We want to take full advantage of the experience Coach Kidd has," said Henderson. "We hope that offering these additional opportunities will open many more doors for our cross country student-athletes locally and nationally."
Monroe Morse, Patrick County XC standout, is one of the first of many cross-country runners who hope to compete for a chance to go to nationals. "Monroe is an extremely hard-working, dedicated runner," says Kidd. "I believe he has the drive to lead our team and help us grow to be a national contender."
The cross-country season begins this fall. To join the program or get more information, please contact Athletic Director, Brian Henderson at bhenderson@patrickhenry.edu or 276-656-0313.
