UPDATE: Man turns himself in after setting Rives Road home on fire

HENRY COUNTY – A Martinsville man turned himself in after setting fire to a mobile home. The fire was started at 1228 Rives Road in Henry County Thursday morning. Roger Junior Lawson has been charged with arson of an unoccupied dwelling according to Henry County Fire Marshal Lisa Garrett.

The older mobile home, valued at $4,000, is owned by Janet Lawson, Roger’s sister. The home was not insuranced.

How and why the fire was set was not reported. Lawson is being held at the Henry County Jail without bond according to Major Eric Winn with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Martinsville Fire and EMS, Martinsville Police Department, Martinsville Public Works, Ridgeway District Volunteer Fire Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Fire Marshall’s Office, Henry County Public Safety and Virginia State Police responded.

HENRY COUNTY – Henry County Public Safety along with Martinsville Fire and EMS are investigating the possible arson of a mobile home on Rives Road. Fire departments from Ridgway and Martinsville were called to responded to a structure fire Thursday morning. The mobile home and a nearby wooded area caught fire. Radio traffic stated that one individual was unaccounted for. After further investigation, Henry County Public Safety Assistant Fire Marshal Kiah Cooper told BTW21 the fire was intentionally started. Cooper said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and one individual is in custody. The individual unaccounted for was located.
