MADISON, N.C. (July 9, 2025) — A large-scale joint operation conducted on July 3 in Madison, North Carolina, has led to one felony arrest and further developments in two ongoing investigations involving a missing person and an overdose death.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Eden Police Department, and the Madison Police Department, executed multiple search warrants at three residences located at 1295, 1297, and 1390 Angell Road.

The searches followed an extensive investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations and Narcotics Divisions.

As a result of the operation, 63-year-old George Avery Boyd was arrested at 1297 Angell Road and charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

He was taken before a magistrate and issued a $3,000 secured bond. Boyd was booked into the Rockingham County Detention Facility and is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 10, 2025.

Authorities confirmed that the properties searched are also connected to two ongoing investigations:

  • Harry Lee Willard, 45, was last reported seen at one of these locations before being declared missing on January 21, 2025. He remains missing, and the Sheriff’s Office continues to actively pursue leads in his disappearance.

  • The scene at 1295 Angell Road is also tied to the overdose death of 40-year-old Jason Douglas Crawford, reported on November 2, 2024. That incident remains under investigation.

Investigators have not yet indicated if George Boyd's arrest is directly related to either the missing person case or the overdose, but they emphasize that the investigation is ongoing.

The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding Harry Lee Willard’s disappearance or Jason Douglas Crawford’s overdose death to come forward.

Tips can be reported directly to the Sheriff’s Office at 336-634-3232 or anonymously through CrimeStoppers at 336-349-9683.

Sheriff Sam Page expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort among agencies:

“This operation was made possible through the continued cooperation and partnership between local, state, and federal agencies working together to protect our communities. We thank all those who assisted.”

The Sheriff’s Office specifically acknowledged the efforts of the SBI, ATF, HSI, Eden and Madison Police Departments, and Rockingham County Emergency Services.

Updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
