UPDATE: Arrest made in stabbing at Kings Court Motel


RIDGEWAY – On May 23, 2018 at approximately 11:25pm, the Martinsville/Henry County Emergency 911 Center received a call that an individual had been stabbed at King’s Court Motel located at 6570 Greensboro Rd., Ridgeway, VA. Deputies arrived at King’s Court Motel and spoke with the victim, Joseph Cody Bowers, 29, of 61 Kilarney Ct., Ridgeway, VA. 

Mr. Bowers advised that he was riding in a vehicle with Justin Wingfield when an argument ensued. As the vehicle arrived at the King’s Court Motel, Justin Wingfield stabbed Bowers multiple times in the upper chest and arm. Bowers was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville where he was treated and released for non-life threating injuries.

 Justin Gregory Wingfield, 26, of 12 Essex St., Bassett, VA was arrested at the scene and charged with malicious wounding (felony). He is currently held in the Henry County Jail without bond.

RIDGEWAY – The Henry County Sheriff’s Office confirmed one male victim was transported to SOVAH with serious injuries. The original 911 call referred to the incident as a stabbing. As we gather more information we are lead to believe some kind of metal blade or object was used. HCSO is currently interviewing witnesses. Possible charges are pending. The incident happened Wednesday night around 11:20 PM. Public Safety and Ridgeway district volunteer rescue squad responded. Henry County Sheriff‘s Office is investigating.
