Bassett, VA – April 17, 2025 (BTW21) A routine traffic stop led to the seizure of illegal narcotics, a firearm, and the arrests of two wanted individuals in Henry County, Virginia, on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office Drug Interdiction Unit initiated a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Crestridge Road, Bassett.

The driver, 51-year-old Darian Rayburn Tatum of Critz, VA, was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest from the City of Martinsville.

The warrant was for a violation of Virginia Code Section 18.2-251, which addresses the substitution of a sample to defeat a drug or alcohol screening test.

The passenger in the vehicle, initially providing false identification, was later identified as 31-year-old Stacey Rea Biggs, also of Critz. Biggs had multiple active warrants, including a failure to appear charge from Patrick County and a charge from Henry County for violating Virginia Code Section 18.2-248—selling a Schedule I/II controlled substance.

To assist in the investigation, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office deployed K-9 Zajo, a narcotics detection dog. K-9 Zajo alerted officers to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

A subsequent search uncovered a SCCY 9mm handgun, numerous bags containing suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, digital scales, packaging materials, and $913 in U.S. currency.

The suspected narcotics will be sent to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis.

As a result of the search and investigation, Tatum and Biggs now face a variety of charges:

Darian Rayburn Tatum has been charged with:

  • Driving While License Revoked (Virginia Code Section 46.2-301)

  • Possession of a Schedule I/II Drug While Possessing a Firearm (Virginia Code Section 18.2-308)

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I/II Drug (Virginia Code Section 18.2-248)

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Non-Violent Felon (Virginia Code Section 18.2-308.2)

  • Possession of a Concealed Weapon by a Convicted Felon (Virginia Code Section 18.2-308.2)

Stacey Rea Biggs has been charged with:

  • Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I/II Drug (Virginia Code Section 18.2-248)

  • Falsely Identifying Oneself to Law Enforcement (Virginia Code Section 19.2-82.1)

Both Tatum and Biggs were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Henry County Adult Detention Center, where they are being held without bond.

Sheriff’s officials stated that this bust is part of their ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug and firearm activity in the region.

Anyone with information related to drug activity is urged to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or the department's anonymous tip line.
