HENRY COUNTY, VA (BTW21) — A Collinsville man is in custody following a disturbing child abuse investigation and a prolonged standoff with law enforcement.

In the early morning hours of July 24, 2025, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the assault and neglect of an 8-month-old child at a residence on Norwood Drive in Henry County.

As a result of the investigation, both Nikki Angelina Walker, 32, and Chase Thomas Fielder, 32, the infant's parents, were identified as suspects.

Deputies quickly arrested Walker at the scene. She is being held at the Henry County Adult Detention Center on a $4,000 secured bond.

Fielder had already fled the residence before deputies arrived. Felony warrants for child abuse and neglect were issued for both suspects under Virginia Code 18.2-371.1.

Throughout the day, deputies worked to locate Fielder. At approximately 7:59 p.m., authorities received information that he was at a residence located at 63 Norwood Drive in Collinsville.

Deputies responded, but Fielder barricaded himself inside, slamming the door and fortifying the home with furniture and appliances to block entry.

Due to Fielder’s known violent criminal history and escalating behavior, the Henry County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team was activated.

Prior to their arrival, deputies attempted peaceful negotiations, but Fielder refused to surrender.

Once on scene, the SWAT Team deployed chemical munitions in an effort to end the standoff.

However, because the residence had been heavily barricaded—including with beds, mattresses, couches, a washing machine, and a dryer—traditional entry methods were not effective.

The team used an armored vehicle to breach the front wall and door, creating an entry point.

Despite the breach, Fielder continued to resist arrest, prompting the use of additional chemical agents.

He eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without injury to law enforcement or the public.

In addition to the felony child abuse and neglect charges, Fielder was charged with Obstruction of Justice under Virginia Code 18.2-460 for his actions during the barricade.

He is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.

Sheriff's Statement

“The abuse of an innocent child is one of the most disturbing and unacceptable crimes we face. In Henry County, we have zero tolerance for those who harm the most vulnerable among us,” said Sheriff Wayne Davis. “Let this serve as a clear message: if you choose to violate the law, we will pursue you relentlessly, and we will bring you to justice. Thanks to the swift action, professionalism, and unwavering resolve of our deputies and SWAT Team, a dangerous criminal was taken into custody without injury to law enforcement or the public.”

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).

Rewards of up to $2,500 are available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects in criminal cases.
