Animal rescue in Iowa donates K9 to Franklin County Sheriff's Office

Deputy/K9 Handler Tim Burton and Khaleesi

FRANKLIN COUNTY – The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has a new narcotics detection member.

Brianna Oleson of Hope Animal Rescue donated an eight month old German Shepherd/Malinois hybrid to the Sheriff’s Office. The new furry member was named “Khaleesi” by her new handler Deputy Tim Burton. K9 Khaleesi will begin training soon with Burton to become a narcotics detection dog.

Khaleesi will replace Burton’s current partner Rex, who is nearing retirement at 11 years of age. "A very special thanks goes to Ms. Oleson who even paid for the transfer of Khaleesi from Des Moines, Iowa to Franklin County," the Sheriff's Office said in a release Tuesday.
