Alcohol was believed to be a factor in weekend crash

PITTSYVANIA, Va. – Virginia State Police Trooper H.G. Harmon is investigating a motor vehicle crash which resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred Friday (Aug 17) at 12:14 a.m. on Route 773 (Wade Road), one half of a mile south of Route 794 (Homestead Road) in Pittsylvania County.

A 1993 Chevrolet pickup was traveling north on Wade Road, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and overturned, ejecting the driver.

The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as Lyle Wayne Adkins, 59, of Pittsville, Va. Mr. Adkins was not wearing his seatbelt and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
