What to do if you encounter a snake

COLLINSVILLE – With the warm weather, not only are people spending more time outdoors, so are snakes. Virginia has around 32 native snake species, but only three are venomous. What should you do when you see one?

Did you know that unless it’s a safety threat, it’s illegal to kill a snake in Virginia. Killing a snake Illegally is a misdemeanor can could cost you a fine up to $1,000 and up to six months in jail.
