49-year-old Martinsville man killed in Henry County crash

AXTON – A 49-year-old Martinsville man was killed in a single vehicle crash in Axton.

The crash occurred on Friday at 7:45 PM on Axton Road (Route 610), one half mile south of Cascade Road (Route 621).

According to Virginia State Police, a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling south on Axton Road, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed the roadway striking a embankment and trees.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Timothy Dwight Adkins of Martinsville. Adkins was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
