MARTINSVILLE, VA – Many Martinsville residents seen an increase in their utility bills for January.
This caused speculation and rumors to circulate on social media stating that rates have been increased.
The City of Martinsville sent out a press release on Tuesday to say that these rumors “are not true.”
“The City of Martinsville has not increased utility rates since July 2020. the month of January, some customers may have received higher utility bills than expected due to higher kilowatt consumption,” the press release reads.
The City says it has not increased utility rates since July 2020 and that payment plans are available for customers who need assistance with paying their utility bill.
