Traffic Crash Involving School Bus and Pedestrian in Martinsville

Martinsville, VA – December 18, 2025
At approximately 12:34 p.m. on December 18, 2025, the Martinsville Police Department responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and East Church Street.
A 49-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a Martinsville City school bus while crossing Cleveland Avenue.
The pedestrian, a Martinsville resident, was transported by Martinsville EMS to Sovah Health Martinsville for treatment.
Fortunately, the woman sustained only minor injuries.
Following an investigation into the incident, Martinsville Police have charged the bus driver with Virginia Code §46.2-924, which pertains to "Failure to Yield Right-of-Way to a Pedestrian at an Intersection."
Authorities are reminding all motorists to remain vigilant and yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.
The department emphasizes that pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility, and drivers are urged to be cautious at all times to prevent accidents and protect the well-being of everyone on the road.
