BASSETT, VA – On Thursday evening, Henry County Public Schools honored seventy seniors as Graduates of Distinction at Bassett High School.
Students qualified for this award by meeting one or more of the following criteria:
Achieving a grade point average of 3.8 or higher
Scoring 1250 or higher on SAT using any two of the subtests, or at least 700 on any one of the subtests
Scoring 28 or higher on the ACT
Earning a state or national academic award/office and maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Students and their guests heard remarks from Henry County native Dr. Valencia Eggleston-Clark.
Eggleston-Clark is a graduate of Laurel Park High School, Duke University, and The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
She decided to pursue a medical degree to provide health care to needy patients despite economic or insurance status.
Eggleston-Clark is currently a practicing Family Medicine physician with Carilion Clinic in Martinsville.
Each student received a medal and a certificate indicating their achievements.
