Citizens warned to stay away from Smith River

MARTINSVILLE – Believe it or not citizens need to be reminded NOT to canoe or kayak in the Smith River. Brian Williams with the Dan River Basin Association warns those who are tempted.

Williams says the Smith River is currently at 10,000 cfs at Martinsville Dam. It should be obvious, but just a reminder - stay off the river anywhere below Martinsville Dam until the flows get back to below 1000cfs please! Public Safety continues to monitor the Smith River.
