VIRGINIA APPROVES NEW TWO-YEAR STATE BUDGET

Virginia lawmakers have finally ended a months-long budget standoff, approving a roughly 207-billion-dollar two-year state spending plan.
The agreement came after months of disagreements between the House and Senate, with data centers becoming one of the biggest points of contention.
Under the compromise, data centers will face an additional tax tied to their electricity use. The issue has received increasing attention as Virginia continues to experience rapid growth in the data center industry.
The budget also includes millions of dollars for priorities including health care and other state services.
The General Assembly approved changes proposed by Governor Abigail Spanberger in June, ending the impasse and preventing a potential disruption in state funding.
The new budget will guide Virginia's spending through the next two fiscal years.
