The Henry County Board of Supervisors held its annual organizational meeting on January 6, where members selected their leadership for the upcoming year.
Jim Adams, who represents the Blackberry District, was elected chairman, continuing his long-standing role in the county’s leadership.
Adams, who has served as chairman 12 times during his 23-year tenure, expressed gratitude for the trust and support of his fellow board members.
“I am grateful for the continued trust and support of my fellow supervisors,” Adams said. “This board has always worked together with a shared commitment to the betterment of our community. Together, we have faced challenges and celebrated successes, and I look forward to another year of collaboration and progress.”
Joe Bryant, representing the Collinsville District, was selected as vice-chairman, marking his fourth term in the position since his re-election in 2021. “I am truly honored to accept the nomination as vice-chairman,” Bryant said. “Over the years, I’ve witnessed our county grow and evolve in ways that fill me with pride, and it’s been a privilege to serve in a leadership capacity during such an exciting time.
The progress we’ve made is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone on this board. I look forward to continuing our efforts in the coming year.”
In addition to electing leadership, the board addressed several key matters during the meeting:
Meeting Dates Set for 2025: The board established its regular meeting schedule for the year, with meetings to be held every fourth Tuesday of the month, except for December, when the board will convene on December 16 to avoid holiday conflicts.
Bylaws and Remote Attendance Policy: The board adopted its bylaws for 2025, including updates to the policy on remote attendance, reflecting the county’s evolving approach to technology and public participation.
Budget Calendar: The board approved the budget calendar for the upcoming fiscal year (2025-2026), marking the beginning of the county's budget planning process.
Planning Session: A planning session for 2025 was scheduled for February 13 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for board members to discuss key priorities for the year ahead.
Sale of Old School Bus Garage: The board authorized the sale of the old Henry
County School Bus Garage to Meeks Commercial Properties, LLC. A public hearing on the sale has been scheduled for January 28, 2025.
The meeting set a positive tone for the year ahead, with a focus on collaboration, community improvement, and continued growth for Henry County.
