Zariah Scales to continue her softball career at UVa-Wise

RIDGEWAY – Zariah Scales officially signed her letter of intent Wednesday to join the Highland Cavaliers' softball program.

She signed her letter on National Signing Day to a college she has had her eyes on for quite some time, the University of Virginia's College at Wise.

"It does make it seem more real that I will be going to college soon. I am grateful to be able to continue doing what I love after high school." Scales said.

Wise will be adding a natural leader at the shortstop position who has been a focal point for the Lady Warriors.

It wasn't always in Scales' plans to play at the collegiate level as she felt overwhelmed because of her travel schedule and prominent involvement in the community.

For Scales, it was her junior year where it clicked that she didn't want to give up on her passion on the diamond.

She credits the Williamburg Starz Gold Showcase team and Coach Bunn who she played for over the summer as a driving factor of getting her name to college scouts.

When asked what made the UVa-Wise the right fit for her:

"I didn't really think I would like Wise but I ended up loving the campus. The coaching staff is really great and the program is super family-oriented, making it the best fit for me."

However, Scales couldn't credit her Warriors family enough for keeping her motivated when things got tough as it was her support system that has allowed her to play the sport that she loves at the next level.
