Woman injured after car crashes, catches fire in Henry County



HENRY COUNTY, VA – A woman trapped in a crashed, burning car Sunday afternoon was pulled to safety.


She was reportedly freed from the burning Ford Fusion by a man who was driving by the scene.


The Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 2:47 p.m. to the incident, which occurred on the on-ramp to William F. Stone Highway from A.L. Philpott Highway.


The Ford ran off the road, wrecked into some trees and burst into flames, causing a small brush fire. 


According to Virginia State Police, the woman suffered severe injuries in the crash.


She was taken to a hospital via helicopter and her condition is not known.


The circumstances that led up to the crash are unclear and are under investigation.


The Henry County Sheriff's Office, Henry County Public Safety and volunteers with the Fieldale Fire Department also responded.


State police continues to investigate the incident.
