Woman charged with attempted murder for shooting at four Henry County deputies

HENRY COUNTY, VA – A Bassett woman is facing multiple attempted murder charges after she ambushed four deputies on Wednesday night.

Around 9:20 p.m., the Martinsville-Henry County 9-1-1 Center got a call that a woman at 695 Pine Valley Road in Bassett was hearing voices.

The caller said that the woman had a gun and was somewhere outside the home.

Four deputies arrived on the scene, and as they got close to the house, the woman shot at them from a wooded area in an ambush-style attack, according to the Henry County Sheriff's Office.

The woman fired multiple rounds at the deputies and retreated into the woods.

Deputies say as they took cover, the woman moved through the woods and sporadically fired more shots for about 20 minutes.

A tactical team from the Sheriff’s Office responded and found the woman in a wooded area.

Heather Hart, 26, of 695 Pine Valley Road, was taken into custody without incident at 11 p.m.

Hart has been charged with four counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

She is currently held in the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
