ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC – A 63-year-old woman is behind bars for shooting her boyfriend in the head on Sunday night.
Around 10 p.m., the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 200 block of Sunrise Acres Road in Stokesdale in response to gunshots being fired.
Upon their arrival, James Melvin Bean, 58, was discovered lying on the ground outside the residence, according to deputies.
Authorities said Bean had several injuries on his head, consistent with being shot by pellets from a shotgun.
Bean told deputies that the woman who shot him was still inside the residence.
As deputies approached the residence, they located Renee Lynne Koch, 63, who also lives there, sitting on the entryway doorsteps inside the open garage.
Koch was taken into custody without incident.
Bean was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of his injuries and is expected to survive, according to authorities.
Koch was charged with for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under no bond.
