Woman arrested for breaking into home, shooting man in Axton

AXTON, VA – A woman is in jail for breaking into a home and shooting a man in the stomach, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to 1316 Robertson Ridge Road in Axton around 9:47 p.m. Sunday night.

There, deputies say they found Terrance Lee Kirby, who had been shot in the stomach, and Kristen Nicole Martin.

Investigators believe an acquaintance of Kirby and Martin, 48-year-old Desseri Idonna Pritchett-Newman, of Blankenship Road in Martinsville, broken into the home and pointed a gun at both of them.

An argument broke out between the three and Pritchett-Newman shot Kirby, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Kirby was flown to a North Carolina medical facility, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Pritchett-Newman was arrested and charged with breaking and entering with the intent to commit murder and malicious wounding.

She is being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.

This investigation is ongoing.
