BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va.
The Virginia State Police are investigating a tragic two-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality.
The incident occurred on Friday, September 20, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Interstate 81, northbound at the 160.7-mile marker.
A 2018 Honda CR-V, driven by 75-year-old Dickie Donald Hall from Hickory, NC, was traveling south when it veered off the left side of the roadway, crossed the median, and entered the northbound lanes.
The vehicle was then struck by a 2000 Jeep Cherokee.
Mr. Hall was wearing his seatbelt and was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
Tragically, his passenger, 67-year-old Debra Powell Hall, also of Hickory, NC, was wearing her seatbelt but died at the scene.
The Jeep Cherokee was driven by a 19-year-old male, who was also wearing his seatbelt.
He and a 19-year-old passenger were transported to the hospital for their injuries.
Dickie Donald Hall has been charged with reckless driving. The investigation is ongoing.
