Virginia State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Bedford County

BEDFORD CO, Va.

Virginia State Police are investigating a tragic single-vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality.

The incident took place on Friday, September 27, at 10:10 p.m. on Bellevue Road, just north of Route 221 in Bedford County.

A 2017 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling north when it lost control, veered off the left side of the road, and struck a fence and a tree.

The driver, 17-year-old William Edward Bettenhausen from Forest, Va., was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

He sustained injuries and was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, where he sadly passed away on September 29, 2024.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
