LYNCHBURG, Va. (BTW21)— Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night on Bedford Avenue, according to the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD).

Zaykeese Amarius Brown, 25, of Lynchburg, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, police confirmed Wednesday.

Officers responded to the scene late Tuesday night and found Brown suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Despite efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting took place in a Lynchburg residence, and investigators are treating the incident as isolated, with no known threat to the wider community.

According to police, surveillance footage captured a single camera angle showing an unidentified individual walking away from the scene. Investigators believe this person may be connected to the case and are actively following up on that lead.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and loved ones of Zaykeese during this incredibly difficult time," the department said in a statement. "We extend our deepest condolences as they navigate this profound loss."

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Detective Dubie at (434) 455-6102 or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.
