HENRY COUNTY, VA – The Virginia State Police has released the name of the man killed in a Saturday night crash in Henry County.
The single-vehicle crash occurred on Carver Road in the vicinity of Creekside Drive around 11 p.m.
A 2016 Audi Q5 was going north on Carver Road, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road and hit a concrete pillar of the 220 Bypass bridge, according to state police.
The Audi was loaded onto a tow truck and moved inside the Fieldale Volunteer Fire Department, where the crash investigation continued.
Police said the driver of the Audi, Maurice O’Neal Washington, 56, of Bassett, was wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.

HENRY COUNTY, VA – A Saturday night crash claimed the life of one person in Henry County.
Crews were dispatched to Carver Road in the vicinity of Creekside Drive around 11 p.m.
The preliminary investigation finds that a vehicle ran off the road and struck a supporting column of the 220 Bypass bridge.
The Bassett Volunteer Rescue Squad, Fieldale Volunteer Fire Department and Virginia State Police responded.
No other information is available and the crash is being investigated by state police.
