Two Men Injured in Shooting Outside Dollar General in Bassett

BASSETT, VA – On Monday evening, October 6, 2025, at approximately 7:45 p.m., the Martinsville-Henry County Emergency 9-1-1 Center received reports of shots fired at the Dollar General located at 3874 Stones Dairy Road in Bassett.
The caller advised dispatchers that two individuals had been struck by gunfire.
Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to investigators, one victim is 20 years old and the other is 21. Rescue personnel transported one victim to a local hospital for treatment, while the other was airlifted to a trauma center for advanced medical care.
Authorities say the shooting occurred in the parking lot on the side of the building, away from the main entrance. Based on preliminary findings, investigators do not believe Dollar General or its employees were the intended targets.
Evidence collected at the scene suggests that gunfire was exchanged between the two victims and at least one additional suspect.
Deputies and investigators interviewed multiple witnesses and processed the area for evidence, collecting several items related to the shooting.
At this time, no arrests have been made.
