PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY – The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office has identified the man and woman found dead in a home Monday.
At around 1 AM, the sheriff's office received a call from a concerned party requesting a well-being check on a friend on Callands Road in Axton.
Just after 1:10 AM, after not receiving an answer, deputies forced their way into the home.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies found the bodies of 29-year-old Brittany Denise Cioffa and 38-year-old Thomas Richard Cioffa with a gun near their bodies.
Both bodies have been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for autopsies.
At this point, investigators believe the male and female were husband and wife and were home alone when the deaths occurred.
The case regarding the cause and manner of deaths is still under investigation.
