Tragic Labor Day Accident Claims Two Lives on Highway 58

 

The tragic single-vehicle accident on Highway 58 near the bypass has left the community reeling, with two lives lost in a collision involving a truck and a tractor-trailer.


The incident occurred today, September 2, 2024, and involved the truck striking the underside of the tractor-trailer while traveling eastbound.


Despite the prompt arrival of emergency responders, the two occupants of the truck were pronounced dead at the scene.


The Virginia State Police are currently investigating the accident to determine its precise cause.


As part of their ongoing investigation, they have closed the highway for several hours to examine the scene and clear the wreckage.


Authorities are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.


The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed pending family notification.

Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash, which

resulted in two fatalities.


The crash occurred Monday, (Sept 2) at 12:30 p.m. on Route 58,

near Summit Drive in Henry County.


A 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on Route 58, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway, crossing the median and striking the trailer portion of a stationary tractor-trailer.


The vehicle's driver was identified as Albert David Elliott, 62, of Henry County, Va. Mr. Elliott was wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.


The passenger was identified as Melissa Sue Willard, 57, also of Henry County, Va. Ms. Willard was wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene.


The crash remains under investigation.
