MARTINSVILLE, Va. (BTW21) — Attention drivers! Starting Thursday, May 1, the City of Martinsville will be rolling out a series of traffic changes aimed at improving safety and streamlining traffic flow in the Uptown area.
According to city officials, these adjustments will include the removal of select traffic signals, with the introduction of stop signs and flashing red lights at key intersections.
The changes are designed to enhance the overall traffic experience, reduce congestion, and prioritize safety for all road users.
Here’s what drivers can expect
Moss Street and Church Street: The existing traffic signals will be removed and replaced with 4-way stop signs.
Walnut Street and Church Street: The current stoplight will be removed, and a stop sign will be installed for vehicles turning left from Walnut onto Church Street.
Broad Street and Church Street: All traffic signals at this intersection will be converted to flashing red lights in every direction, creating an all-way stop.
Officials have assured the public that signage will be posted at all affected locations, and extra patrols will be deployed during the first few weeks of the transition to help manage traffic and ensure safety.
City officials encourage the public to remain patient as the city works through this transition, emphasizing that the changes are in the best interest of everyone who travels through the Uptown area.
