Tory Shepherd named Chief Operating Officer of Sovah Health in Martinsville



MARTINSVILLE – Sovah Health announced Tuesday that Tory Shepherd has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sovah Health – Martinsville (SHM) and will assume her new role effective April 7. She has served as Assistant Administrator of SHM since 2016.

“We are so excited to have Tory step into this important role,” said Michael Ehrat, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SHM. “Tory’s background and expertise in clinical patient care and hospital operations combined with her strong ties to the Martinsville & Henry County community will be instrumental in helping advance our mission of Making Communities Healthier.”

As Assistant Administrator, Shepherd has led the development of the hospital’s total joint replacement program, expanded its lung cancer screening program and overseen the rollout of the Duke Heart Network and implementation of 3D mammography at the Julius Hermes Breast Care Center.

Under Shepherd’s leadership, Sovah Health – Martinsville has achieved multiple accreditations including Chest Pain Center and Heart Failure from the American College of Cardiology and the Commission on Cancer from the American College of Surgeons.

She currently serves as a member of the Executive Lung Cancer Screening Council for LifePoint Health. Locally, Shepherd is a board member for the United Way of Henry County & Martinsville, West Piedmont Investment Board and the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to joining SHM’s administrative team, Shepherd served as the Director of Cardiopulmonary Neurophysiology Services and as a cardiopulmonary coordinator and respiratory therapist.

Shepherd holds a Master of Business Administration from Averett University in Danville and a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science from Old Dominion University. She is a licensed registered respiratory therapist, certified cardiovascular care coordinator and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). She was recognized in 2014 as Mercy Award Winner of SHM, LifePoint Health’s highest honor for employees.
