Updated: Jun 24, 2021

FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA – Virginia State Police say the driver of a motorcycle involved in a crash last Friday has died.

The crash occurred at 7:45 p.m. on Snow Creek Road, approximately one mile east of Shady Grove Road in Franklin County.

According to state police, a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser was going west on Snow Creek Road when it crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2018 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

The impact of the crash caused the Toyota to run off the road and hit a tree.

30-year-old Richard Boyce Jr. and 29-year-old Chastedy Boyce, both of Bassett, were thrown from the motorcycle.

Richard Boyce died from his injuries on Tuesday, according to authorities.

Police say both were wearing helmets and were flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, 52-year-old Lori Oyler, of Martinsville, was transported by ambulance to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

Authorities say she was wearing a seatbelt.

Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
