MARTINSVILLE – A swarm with anywhere from 7,000 to 10,000 honey bees was relocated Monday.
Exterminator Eddie Duke began recording with his cellphone when he got to a tree covered with them at Maplewood Apartments on Fayette Street.
Duke then called local beekeeper Earl Vanover for help.
For about two hours, Vanover got most of the bees into a box to be transported to his home.
"I want to say how much I appreciate Eddie calling me to save these bees. This was a beautiful swarm of honeybees," Vanover said in a Facebook post.
The bees were placed in permanent hive and he is now caring for them.
When asked if the beekeeper was surprised since it's too early for bees to be swarming.
"Yes. I was very surprised to get this call considering the weekend temperatures. The folks at the location said they had been there all weekend. I’m thankful that I had the chance to save them," Earl Vanover answered.
