A dramatic high-speed chase unfolded in Henry County on March 13, when a suspect led law enforcement officers on a lengthy pursuit across multiple communities before crashing and fleeing on foot.
The incident began earlier in the day when a Henry County deputy spotted a white Chevrolet Equinox speeding on the wrong side of the road in Collinsville.
According to Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis, the deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and accelerated away.
The suspect led authorities on a dangerous chase through Collinsville, Fieldale, and ultimately into the Bassett community, where the pursuit came to a crashing halt.
The suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the 1100 block of Sunset Drive, causing significant damage to private property.
As the vehicle caught fire, the driver fled the scene on foot. After a brief search, the suspect was apprehended roughly half a mile away.
During the pursuit, deputies also discovered a woman lying on the side of Sunset Road, who appeared to have been involved in the incident.
Sheriff Davis confirmed that the woman sustained no major injuries.
She told authorities that she knew the driver and claimed that she managed to jump out of the vehicle as it slowed down on Sunset Drive.
According to her, she was an acquaintance of the driver and had been inside the car before it crashed.
"We're looking into a possible abduction as part of this investigation," Sheriff Davis said. "Her allegation is that once on Sunset, she was able to jump from the vehicle. She didn't suffer any serious injuries, but the circumstances are concerning."
Sheriff Davis, who was in the Collinsville area when the pursuit started, joined the chase himself, even getting his uniform dirty while assisting in the suspect's capture.
The suspect, who has not yet been named, now faces multiple charges, including reckless driving and felony eluding law enforcement.
In addition, authorities are considering additional charges for abduction and motor vehicle theft as the investigation continues.
The suspect was also wanted on several outstanding felony warrants.
As of now, the investigation remains ongoing, with law enforcement officials working to determine the full extent of the crime and gather more details about the incident.
Authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward as they continue to piece together the events surrounding the chase.
