STUART, Va. — A Stuart man is being held without bond after authorities say he violently attacked a woman during an August 23rd incident.

According to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith, George Kevin Rucker, 42, of 174 Developmental Drive, was arrested on August 25th and charged with Attempted Murder, Abduction, Malicious Wounding, Strangulation, and Domestic Assault and Battery.

A criminal complaint filed by Sheriff’s Investigator Tennille Jessup alleges that Rucker repeatedly threatened to kill a female victim before strangling her and beating her with a hammer while preventing her from leaving the residence.

Sheriff Smith confirmed the victim sustained serious injuries and was treated at Sovah Health – Martinsville.

“Rucker and the victim were involved in a relationship,” Smith said. “We are fortunate that this didn’t manifest into a homicide.”

Rucker remains in custody at the Patrick County Jail with no bond set.
