Statement Regarding Death Investigation in Henry County

Henry County, VA – The Virginia State Police issued a statement today, December 15, 2025, in response to public speculation surrounding an investigation into the death of a trooper in Henry County.
The agency clarified that reports circulating on social media suggesting the incident is connected to a murder/suicide are incorrect.
The investigation, which began on Sunday, December 14, 2025, pertains to the death of a 44-year-old male Virginia State Trooper assigned to Henry County.
According to the police, there were no other individuals involved, and the death is being classified as unattended.
The Virginia State Police confirmed that the circumstances of the trooper’s death are currently under review.
To ensure a thorough examination, the trooper’s remains have been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Western District, for further analysis.
"While we typically do not release details regarding unattended death investigations, we are issuing this clarification due to the nature of public speculation that has arisen," said the Virginia State Police in a statement. "We hope to clear up any confusion and prevent the spread of misinformation."
At this stage, law enforcement has indicated that no foul play is suspected.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to understand the full circumstances surrounding the trooper's death.
The Virginia State Police further requested that any inquiries from the public or media be directed to their office, where officials are prepared to provide information as appropriate.
