State Police: Two people killed after motorcycle crashes, catches fire



FRANKLIN COUNTY – Two people were killed in a Franklin County motorcycle crash on Sunday.


The crash happened at 10:35 PM on Bethlehem Road.


According to state police, a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja headed east on Bethlehem Road ran off the right side of the road, went down an embankment into a ditch and caught fire.


The driver, 25-year-old Jesse Mackinley Stapleton, of Rocky Mount, was wearing a helmet and died at the scene.


19-year-old Rodney Calvin Craighead, Jr. of Lynchburg, was the passenger.


Police say he was not wearing a helmet and also died at the scene.


The crash remains under investigation.
