ROCKY MOUNT – Rocky Mount Police have charged a brother and sister in connection to a homicide.

Monday at around 7:40 PM, officers responded to calls of shots fired in the 100 block of Bland Street in Rocky Mount.

Officers say they found the victim, Tony Dimitri Bruce, 26, of Bland Street suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Kaniesha Shatae Hannon, 27, and Richard Lee Hannon Jr., 28, were arrested in Axton Tuesday morning.

Kaniesha was charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and Richard was charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

Both are being held without bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail.

“This is the first adult homicide we’ve had in Rocky Mount since I’ve been chief of police, and the first in Rocky Mount in over 20 years,” said Rocky Mount Police Chief Ken Criner. “Our preliminary investigation suggests this situation involves persons known to each other, and there is no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.”

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information should call the Rocky Mount Police Department at 540-483-9275.
