BASSETT, VA – A man is behind bars after an argument led to a deadly shooting in Bassett on Saturday night.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office got the call for the shooting at 1163 Jarrett Drive in Bassett around 8:42 p.m.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they say they found Kaleb Tremaine Greene, 24, of Maple Street in Martinsville, lying on the floor of the home.
Greene suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say they encountered the suspect, Isaiah Jeremiah Dillard, 21, of 1136 Jarrett Drive in Bassett, outside the home and he was taken into custody without incident.
According to investigators, the two acquaintances were inside the home when Greene got in an argument with someone and Dillard shot and killed Greene.
Dillard admitted to investigators that he shot Green, his sister’s boyfriend, because he thought Green was going to assault his sister again, warrants say.
Dillard is charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
He is currently held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia, where an autopsy will be performed.
