Severe storm causes $250,000 in damage to Cunningham Tire in Bassett

BASSETT, VA – Sunday's severe storm caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to Cunningham Tire in Bassett.

The back wall of the business, located at 2020 Fairystone Park Highway, collapsed.

The Bassett Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene for reports of a structure fire after the wall brought down power lines and ignited a small fire of contents.

Part of the parking lot, as well as Woody Circle behind the business, flooded.

No injuries were reported since the auto shop was closed at the time of the collapse.

Manager Jamie Clark said the exact cause of the collapse is unknown, but was possibly from a lightning strike or ponding water on the roof.
