Seven Arrested in Danville Vehicle Theft Ring; One Suspect Still at Large

Danville, Va. (BTW21) — The Danville Police Department has arrested seven individuals in connection to a string of vehicle-related thefts that have plagued local neighborhoods in the early months of 2025.
Authorities say one suspect remains at large as investigations continue.
Police report that thefts from vehicles have surged across the city since the beginning of the year.
Investigators believe that three of those arrested — all Danville residents — worked together as a team to commit several of the crimes.
Two of the three have been taken into custody, while one remains on the run.
The DPD has named Syreeta Watkins, Tohn Echols, and Shadd Breakley as the trio allegedly operating together.
Both Watkins and Echols have been arrested. Breakley remains at large.

Shadd Breakley (Still at Large)
Felony Theft of Credit Cards
Misdemeanor Credit Card Fraud
Misdemeanor Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle
Police say four other individuals were arrested in separate incidents, though not working in connection with the above trio.

Roland Cobbins, 64 (Winston-Salem, NC)
Felony Unauthorized Possession of Two or More Credit Cards
Felony Possession of Burglarious Tools(Cobbins was arrested in North Carolina and later released on bond.)

Two Counts of Felony Grand Larceny
Four Counts of Misdemeanor Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle
Preston Gardner-Phelps, 18 (Mississippi)
Two Counts of Misdemeanor Enter or Set in Motion a Vehicle
The Danville Police Department is continuing its investigation and urges residents to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables to deter further thefts.
