Accident involving a tractor-trailer closes Route 220 in Fieldale

FIELDALE, VA – William F. Stone Highway in Fieldale was closed due to two separate vehicle accidents on Wednesday.

The accidents occurred near the 609 exit at around 11:53 a.m.

According to Virginia State Police, the first accident occurred when a grey Volkswagen hydroplaned and blocked the southbound lanes.

When traffic stopped for the hydroplaned vehicle, a tractor-trailer hauling milk was unable to stop and rear-ended a silver Hyundai sedan, police said.

A man was transported to the hospital for whiplash and to be checked out, according to state police.

VDOT was called to the scene for traffic control and to help with the clean up after the 18-wheeler began to leak milk.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office, Henry County Public Safety, Fieldale-Collinsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, and members of the Fieldale and Bassett volunteer fire departments also responded.

The crash remains under the investigation of state police.
